Understanding these figures

What civil cases cover

Civil cases are the disputes recorded in the civil registers of the courts: claims for payment, credit and loan agreements, assigned receivables, insurance, energy supply, leases, damages, divorce and maintenance. They make up almost all of the decisions that Czech courts publish.

Which courts publish them

In 2025, decisions in civil cases were published by 89 district courts, 12 regional courts and 2 high courts. By tier: 93% from district courts, 7.2% from regional courts and 0.1% from high courts.

What counts as a decision

Each published decision counts as one, whatever its form: a judgment, a ruling on an appeal or an order. One case can produce several decisions, in the same court or in successive ones. The figures count the decisions published in the open-data collection of the Czech courts; they do not count cases, and they are not every decision issued.

Yearly volumes

Between 2020 and 2025 the yearly number of decisions in civil cases ranges from 14,767 in 2020 to 173,875 in 2022. All decisions together range from 15,224 to 175,346 over the same years, so a change from one year to the next says little about the number of cases in the courts.

Reading the figures with care

The collection holds no outcome for these decisions, so no dismissal rate or success rate is shown. No statistic can predict the outcome of a particular case.
