The courts
The Czech courts shown here are the district courts, which decide most disputes at first instance, the regional courts and the two high courts. The table lists every court with decisions in the collection, with the number of decisions published in 2025, the change over one year and its share of the national total. The buttons filter the table by type of court.
The Okresní soud v Sokolově published the most decisions in 2025 (2,600), followed by the Městský soud v Brně (1,852) and the Okresní soud v Ostravě (1,739); these three courts account for 9.5% of the national total. 91 of the 103 courts with decisions in 2025 published at least 200 decisions that year; the other 12 appear with counts only. Over one year, 64 of the 103 courts with decisions in 2025 published more decisions than in 2024. Among the district courts, the number of decisions published in 2025 ranges from 5 to 2,600, with a median of 587. Among the regional courts, the number of decisions published in 2025 ranges from 1 to 1,503, with a median of 250. Of the high courts, the Vrchní soud v Praze published 1,063 decisions and the Vrchní soud v Olomouci published 10 decisions.
District courts include the Prague district courts (obvodní soudy) and the Brno Municipal Court; regional courts include the Prague Municipal Court. A branch (pobočka) is listed under its own name. Courts with fewer than 200 decisions in 2025 show counts only. Decisions not attributed to one of these courts (21 in 2025) are not counted.
Case families
Each published decision is assigned to a case family according to the court register in which the case is recorded: civil, commercial, family or other non-criminal registers. The families differ greatly in size, as the table shows. The second table lists the subject keywords that the decisions carry most often.
Civil cases account for 98% of the decisions published in 2025, that is 64,078 decisions, 3% more than in 2024. Commercial cases: 1,010 decisions, all of them from the Vrchní soud v Praze. Other non-criminal cases: 36 decisions (0.1% of the total), from 14 courts. Family cases: 6 decisions (less than 0.1% of the total), from 4 courts. Since 2020, civil cases have made up between 97% and 99% of the decisions published each year.

Decisions year by year
This chart follows, year by year, the number of decisions published by each type of court. The volume measures what has been published; it is not the number of cases filed in the same year, and the yearly figure of a court can move sharply with the number of decisions it publishes.
From 2020 to 2025, the courts published 565,780 decisions in the collection; the yearly total went from 15,224 in 2020 to 65,130 in 2025. The yearly total peaked at 175,346 in 2022. It was 71,852 in 2023, 63,472 in 2024 and 65,130 in 2025. District courts issued between 91% and 99% of the yearly total. In 2025, among the 65,098 published decisions with a known filing year, 70% were issued in the calendar year in which the case was registered, 26% in the following year and 4% later.

Gap between the year of filing and the year of the decision
Gap in calendar years between the year in the case number and the year of the decision, over the decisions of 2025 with a known filing year; it is not a duration in months.

The court system
The general courts of Czechia have several tiers. District courts (okresní soudy) decide most civil disputes at first instance, and their decisions can usually be appealed to a regional court (krajský soud). Regional courts also hear some categories of cases at first instance, and the two high courts (vrchní soudy), in Prague and in Olomouc, decide appeals against those first-instance decisions. The Supreme Court (Nejvyšší soud) is the highest court in civil and criminal matters and the Supreme Administrative Court (Nejvyšší správní soud) the highest in administrative matters.
In 2025, 89 district courts published 59,427 decisions (91%), 12 regional courts published 4,630 decisions (7.1%) and 2 high courts published 1,073 decisions (1.6%). The Vrchní soud v Praze published 99% of the high-court decisions; 95% of its decisions are commercial cases. The Supreme Court and the Supreme Administrative Court, which sit above these courts, are not covered by the figures.

Understanding these figures
What counts as a decision
Each published decision counts as one, whatever its form: a judgment, a ruling on an appeal or an order. One case can produce several decisions, in the same court or in successive ones. The figures count the decisions published in the open-data collection of the Czech courts; they do not count cases, and they are not every decision issued.
Why yearly volumes move
The collection holds 175,346 decisions dated 2022, against 63,472 dated 2024 and 65,130 dated 2025. Yearly volumes depend on what the courts publish, so a change from one year to the next says little about the number of cases in the courts. The same holds for a single court, whose yearly figure can change several-fold from one year to the next.
Case families
A decision is placed in a family according to the register of its case number: civil, commercial, family or other non-criminal. In 2025, 88 of the 103 courts with decisions published decisions in a single family, usually civil. The collection holds no outcome for these decisions, so this site shows no dismissal rate or success rate for Czechia.
The gap between filing and decision
The case number of a decision carries the year in which the case was registered with the court. The gap shown is the difference in calendar years between that year and the year of the decision, so a case registered in December and decided in January has a gap of one year. It is not a duration in months. It is shown for courts with at least 200 decisions in the year, and it covers the decisions of the year shown that carry a filing year.
Reading the figures with care
These figures describe published decisions of past years. Courts do not receive the same disputes, and the decisions they publish do not cover the same share of their work, so two courts cannot be compared point by point. No statistic can predict the outcome of a particular case.
Frequently asked questions
How many court decisions are published in Czechia each year?
The collection holds 175,346 decisions dated 2022, 71,852 dated 2023, 63,472 dated 2024 and 65,130 dated 2025, from the district, regional and high courts. District courts account for 91% of the 2025 total.
Which Czech court publishes the most decisions?
In 2025 the Okresní soud v Sokolově published 2,600 decisions, followed by the Městský soud v Brně (1,852) and the Okresní soud v Ostravě (1,739). Together the three account for 9.5% of the decisions published that year.
What kinds of cases do the published decisions cover?
98% of the 2025 decisions are civil cases (claims for payment, credit and loan agreements, insurance, energy supply, leases, divorce and maintenance), and 1.6% are commercial cases, almost all from the Prague High Court.
Which Czech courts are covered?
The figures cover 103 district, regional and high courts, including the Prague district courts, the Prague Municipal Court and the Brno Municipal Court. The Supreme Court and the Supreme Administrative Court are not covered, and criminal cases are not part of the data.
Does this site show every decision of the Czech courts?
No. The figures count the decisions published in the open-data collection of the Czech courts. A court that appears with a small number of decisions has not necessarily decided few cases.
How long after filing are decisions issued?
In 2025, among the 65,098 published decisions with a known filing year, 70% were issued in the calendar year in which the case was registered, 26% in the following year and 4% two or more years later. This is a gap in calendar years, not a duration in months.
